Ingredients:

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 5 cups flour
  • powdered sugar (optional)
  • colored crystal sugar (optional)
  • cinnamon (optional)

Directions:

  1. Cream shortening, sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, salt, and vanilla together.
  2. Mix flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar together in a separate bowl.
  3. Add slowly to wet mixture until thoroughly mixed.
  4. Roll into into one inch balls, then shape into crescent moons or stars.
  5. Flatten slightly with a fork.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
  7. After cookies have been baked, sprinkle with powdered or colored sugar and top with cinnamon.
