Ingredients:

  • 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup milk

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  3. Cut in shortening until fine crumbs are formed.
  4. Add eggs, milk, and vanilla.
  5. Beat at low speed for 1 minute, then high for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl frequently.
  6. TIP: Egg whites may be beaten separately before adding to mix for a lighter cake.
