Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 tsp dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 6 -7 cups flour

Directions:

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water & milk.
  2. Add sugar & salt.
  3. Add potatoes, shortening, eggs, baking powder & some of the flour; mix well.
  4. Add additional flour until soft dough is achieved.
  5. Turn onto a floured surface & knead until dough is smooth & elastic.
  6. Place in a greased bowl & turn once to grease both sides.
  7. Let rise till double.
  8. Punch down & turn onto floured surface.
  9. Roll out to 3/4 thickness & cut with doughnut cutter.
  10. Let rise until double.
  11. Fry in deep, hot oil, heated to 375.
  12. Turn once until both sides are golden brown.
  13. Remove with slotted spoon & drain on paper towel.
  14. Glaze while warm.
  15. Cooking time includes rising of the dough.
