Ingredients:

  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1/4 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  1. Mix 2 cups flour and the yeast.
  2. Heat and stir milk, sugar and shortening and salt till warm.
  3. Add to flour mixture.
  4. Add egg,
  5. Beat at low speed for 1/2 minute.
  6. Beat 3 minutes at high speed.
  7. Stir in as much of the remaining flour as you can mix in with a spoon.
  8. Knead in enough of the remaining flour to make a moderately stiff dough.
  9. Knead till smooth (5 to 8 minutes).
  10. Shape into a ball.
  11. Place in greased bowl.
  12. Turn over.
  13. Let rise until double (45 to 60 minutes).
  14. Punch down. divide into half.
  15. Let rise 10 minutes.
  16. Shape into rolls.
  17. Place in pan. cover.
  18. Let rise in warm place till double (30 to 45 minutes).
  19. Bake in oven at 400 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
