Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups oatmeal
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Mix first 3 ingredients and bring to a boil until it bubbles, then remove from heat. Mix in the remaining ingredients.
  2. Press into an 8 x8 pan and cool until firm. Cut into bars approx. 1 x1 pieces.
  3. Heat 8 oz. of chocolate chips. Dip bars into chocolate and cool. The original recipe as written by my mother included 1/2 bar of paraffin wax with the chocolate chips - I make it without the paraffin - I think the only change is the firmness of the chocolate.
