chuck roast, salt and pepper (to taste), dried italian salad dressing mix (to taste, i recommend 2 packets), vinegar, beef bouillon cubes, water, bay leaf, dinner rolls (to taste) or bun (to taste)

boneless beef roast (chuck, shoulder, arm, trimmed of fat), lipton onion soup mix or 1 (1 1/4 oz) envelope mushroom soup mix, water (approximate), dry sherry (kind you drink, not cooking sherry), potatoes, peeled (waxy, not baking potatoes), carrots, peeled, cut in half (i prefer california carrots because they are sweeter), black pepper, low-sodium beef bouillon cube, mushrooms, drained (optional), cornstarch, cold water
