  • 1 Bring water and salt to a rolling boil in medium saucepan.
  • 2 Slowly add cornmeal to pan, stirring constantly.
  • 3 Drop heat to medium, continue stirring until thick and uniform.
  • 4 Pour into a greased, small loaf pan and let cool.
  • 5 Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for a few hours.
  • 6 Drain off any accumulated condensation.
  • 7 Heat bacon grease or oil in frying pan.
  • 8 Slice mush into 1/2 inch slices, you may wish to dredge in flour, maybe not-that's up to the cook!
  • 9 Fry on both sides until golden and crispy.
  • 10 Dinner? Salt & pepper well before serving
  • 11 Dessert/Breakfast? Shake powdered sugar over the mush slices, and serve with fruit, whipped cream, syrup or whatever makes your dress fly up!
