asparagus, trimmed ,pared and cut into thirds, shallot, sliced, potatoes , preferably yukon gold,peeled and sliced, vegetable broth, fresh mint leaves, grated lemon , zest of, salt & freshly ground black pepper, minced fresh chives (to garnish ), minced scallion top, for garnish

cold water, fresh asparagus, trimmed, but left whole, heavy cream, salt, chopped leeks, pepper to taste, pure vanilla extract (the vanilla enhances the flavor of the ingredients, but imparts no vanilla taste)
