head lettuce, leaves washed and dried, bread (dark rye preferred), butter, softened for spreading (or margarine), cooked shrimp (or small prawns), tomatoes, sliced thinly, red onion, sliced into thin rings, salami, thinly sliced, blue cheese, sliced, havarti cheese, sliced, hard-boiled eggs, sliced, smoked salmon, thinly sliced, gravlax, sliced, pickled herring, black pepper , to taste, lemon, sliced thinly (garnish ), gherkins (garnish ), dill, to taste (garnish ), garden cress (or baby mustard cress, garnish)

crabmeat, prawns, sea scallops , i seared mine seperately and then added, garlic, minced (to taste), onion , semi-finely diced, artichoke heart, finely chopped (i just used a can of artichoke hearts), butter
