This recipe is for people who like thier alfredo sauce really thick and heavy. The walnuts can be ommitted if desired. I also like to steam asparagus and chop it up and add it to the pasta and sauce when its in the bowl. Remember this sauce is for creamy sauce lovers! Enjoy and dont be afraid to write a comment.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1/2 of a medium sized onion, chopped
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1/2 cup flour
2 cups half-and-half cream
2 ounces cream cheese (sliced into squares)
2 tablespoons sour cream
1 tablespoon basil
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
1/2 cup walnuts
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (or to taste)
salt (to taste)
pepper (to taste)
garlic salt (to taste)
steamed asparagus (chopped)
Directions:
1. In a food processor mix the basil, grated cheese, walnuts, crushed red pepper, salt, pepper, and garlic salt.
2. Set aside for later in the recipe.
3. In a large sauce pan melt one stick of butter on meduim low heat.
4. Once the butter has melted entirely add the chopped onion and the minced garlic. Cook until the onion becomes translucent (maybe 5 minutes).
5. Now turn the heat to low and slowly sift in the flour. Constantly stirring until its all mixed smoothly.
6. Now slowly add in the half and half. Again stirring constantly. Mix until its all well blended and smooth.
7. At this point turn the heat back up to medium and add the sour cream and cream cheese.
8. Cook until most of the cream cheese dissolves into the sauce. At this point add the mixed ingredients in the food processor to the sauce and stir everything together until the sauce becomes totally smooth and creamy,.
9. Put sauce on top of your favorite pasta and add the chopped asparagus.
