From Jo Ann Shirley's 1978 Cakes and Cookies cookbook. These use sweet wine to flavor the dough and are cut into little rounds. You could leave the nuts off the top if you want to cut down the preparation time or if you just don't like nuts.
Ingredients:
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
2 egg yolks
5 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 pinch salt
2/3 cup sweet wine
1 egg white, beaten
chopped nuts
Directions:
1. Mix together butter, sugar and egg yolks. Beat until light and fluffy.
2. Sift together flour and salt. Add alternately with wine. Mix well. Chill.
3. Roll out on a floured board and cut into 2” rounds. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with nuts. Bake at 325°F for about 10 minutes.
