WINE AND CHEESE BREAD This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Sorrell Estate in Greenville, Texas in 1992.
Ingredients:
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup instant nonfat dry milk
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 tablespoon minced onion
1 egg beaten
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup white wine
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 cup freshly granted parmesan cheese
Directions:
1. Sift together flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, salt, soda and dry milk.
2. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal.
3. Add sugar, minced onion, egg, milk, wine and oregano then mix thoroughly.
4. Spread mixture in greased round pan and sprinkle with cheese then bake at 425 for 20 minutes.
