Wonderful whole grain & lower fat version of popular biscuits. If you're not a big fan of whole wheat, try organic white whole wheat (or if you must, substitute half with all-purpose flour).
Ingredients:
1 7/8 cups whole wheat flour, sifted (it's just 2 cups minus 2 tablespoons)
1/3 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
2/3 cup skim milk
1/2 cup low-fat cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 cup light margarine
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 450°F.
2. Mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, and vegetable shortening until crumbly.
3. Add milk & cheese until dough forms.
4. Drop by spoonfuls onto ungreased cooking sheet.
5. Bake 8- 10 min until golden brown.
6. Mix butter and garlic powder. Brush over warm biscuits.
