some cakes are made with traditional ingredients such as nuts and fruit, and others are made with, let's say, odd ingredients -- mayonnaise, sauerkraut or ketchup. today we're featuring a whiskey cake. whiskey may not be your cup of tea, but this type of cake is very popular in some parts of the country. and of course there are different versions -- irish whiskey cake, chocolate whiskey cake, tennessee whiskey cake and tipsy cake.
today's version is made with a packaged pineapple cake mix. chopped nuts, instant pudding and maraschino cherries are added to the batter.

Directions:
1. 1/2 cup maraschino cherries, cut up (about 23 cherries)
2. 4 eggs
3. 1 cup milk
4. 1/2 cup oil (or 3/4 cup applesauce)
5. 1 small package instant coconut or French vanilla pudding
6. 1 box pineapple cake mix
7. 1/2 cup chopped nuts
8. Whiskey syrup
9. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
10. Grease and flour a bundt pan. Place the cherries on the bottom of the pan.
11. Beat eggs, add milk, oil and beat well. Add the pudding and cake mix and stir until combined. Fold in the nuts.
12. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes or until tested done. Remove cake from oven. While cake is still hot pour half of the syrup over the cake. Allow cake to cool about 15 to 20 minutes. Invert cake. Pour the remaining syrup over cake.
13. For the syrup:
14. 1/3 stick butter, softened
15. 1/2 cup sugar
16. 1/4 cup whiskey
17. Mix together and pour over cake.
