A traditional German soup similar to french onion and rarely served these days. Ingredients:
3 t fat |
1 onion, chopped |
2- 3 slices leftover bread, cut into cubes |
1 3/4 c beef broth |
salt |
pepper |
marjoram |
thyme |
caraway seed |
1 t butter |
Directions:
1. Brown the onion in the fat until golden brown, then add thyme and marjoram. 2. Stir in the bread cubes, add broth and bring to a boil. 3. After about 10 minutes, add salt and pepper to taste. 4. Serve with a small slice of bread in the hot soup. |
