A traditional German soup similar to french onion and rarely served these days.
Ingredients:
3 t fat
1 onion, chopped
2- 3 slices leftover bread, cut into cubes
1 3/4 c beef broth
salt
pepper
marjoram
thyme
caraway seed
1 t butter
Directions:
1. Brown the onion in the fat until golden brown, then add thyme and marjoram.
2. Stir in the bread cubes, add broth and bring to a boil.
3. After about 10 minutes, add salt and pepper to taste.
4. Serve with a small slice of bread in the hot soup.
