I don't know if South African waffles is the same as in other countries, but here is ours. We usually enjoy this as a dessert with whipped cream or ice cream and syrups or honey.
Ingredients:
3 cups cake flour (750 ml)
2 tablespoons baking powder (30 ml)
1 teaspoon salt (5 ml)
4 teaspoons granulated sugar (20 ml)
2 cups milk (250 ml)
4 eggs, seperated
6 tablespoons butter, melted (65 ml)
honey / maple syrup/ golden syrup
whipped cream
Directions:
1. Sift dry ingredients together.
2. Stir in the sugar.
3. Gradually stir in the milk while mixing.
4. Mix very well.
5. Seperate the eggs.
6. Beat the egg yolks.
7. Stir in the eggs.
8. Stir in the melted butter.
9. Mix well.
10. Beat the egg whites until stiff points form.
11. Fold into dough.
12. Heat up a waffle maker (I have an electric one)
13. Spoon the dough into the waffle maker.
14. Open when golden and crispy.
15. Pour some honey over.
16. Top with cream or ice cream.
17. Eat immediately.
