I got this recipe from my grandmother who had tweeked it from a 1950's cookbook. This stuff is so good!
Ingredients:
2 medium apples
1/4 cup red-hot candies
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup brown sugar
Directions:
1. Combine first 4 ingredients in saucepan. Cook for 5 minutes, remove from heat and cool. Creat together the butter and 1/2 cup sugar until fluffy. Stir in sifted flour, baking powder and salt, alternating with milk and beat until smooth. Pour into an 8 inch square baking pan. Spoon the fruit (fruit only) from the saucepan mixture over the batter and sprinkle with the brown sugar. Pour the fruit JUICE from the saucepan mixture over the top of the brown sugar. Bake for 45-50 minutes at 375 degrees.
2. Serve this while warm and it makes it extra delicious if served with whipped topping or ice cream!
