This is great for older less active dogs who could use the protein, but not the fat, of meat. And just to be clear, despite what one chef had to say about garlic, oil, and the lot, my vet had no problem with this recipe, says my dog benefits from it, and attributes her wonderful health at her old age in part to her diet. So choose carefully when it comes to your own dog and consult your vet if you are worried, but know that this is not the poisonous concoction some would have you believe.
Ingredients:
2 small red potatoes, chopped
2 cups water
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 garlic clove, minced
3 cups fresh corn kernels (or frozen)
3/4 cup kidney bean, cooked
3/4 cup low-fat milk
salt
pepper
Directions:
1. Cook kidney beans & set aside.
2. Place potatoes in pot & cover with water. Bring to boil, then lower heat and cook for about fifteen minutes until soft and tender.
3. Remove potatoes from pot & reserve water.
4. In another large pot heat olive oil. Add the corn continue cooking 5 minutes.
5. Add beans and water from potatoes; bring to boil.
6. Reduce simmer until corn is tender.
7. Place potatoes & milk into blender & puree. Pour into soup.
8. Salt and pepper to taste.
