Vegan Date Squares

These are great squares that use maple syrup instead of refined sugar-make sure maple syrup is vegan! The syrup can also be omitted to make a less sweet square.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup dates
2 cups flour
2 cups oats
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions:
1. soak dates in 1 cup of water(optional) and then heat until water evaporates(here you can add lemon juice, rind, or extracts if it pleases you).
2. combine dry ingredients.
3. combine wet ingredients.
4. mix both mixtures.
5. spread half of mixture into 8 pan.
6. spread date puree.
7. add the other half of mixture.
8. bake at 350 degrees until lightly browned-approx 25-30mins.
