Ukrainian Lokshyna W Cottage Cheese (Noodle and Cheese Casserole

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups uncooked fresh egg noodles
4 slices bacon, chopped
1 egg, slightly beaten
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1 cup cottage cheese
salt
1/4 cup buttered bread crumb
Directions:
1. Cook the noodles as directed in the recipe for Lokshyna.
2. Fry the chopped bacon until crisp, and add it along with the bacon fat to the noodles.
3. Sprinkle lightly with salt and mix well.
4. Combine the egg with the cream and cottage cheese.
5. Season to taste with salt.
6. Arrange alternate layers of the noodles and cheese mixture in a buttered baking dish.
7. Top with the buttered bread crumbs.
8. Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for about 40 minutes.
9. Serve as a main dish with a vegetable salad.
