We developed this in response to Borinda's request for a cheese bread. We make bread several times a week. The aromas - WOW. The loaf has good texture, but it's hard to resist - we didn't -just pulling some off and eating it warm. Read more . Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 pkg or 1 tbs yeast
1 tbs sugar
1/4 cup warm water (not above 110 degrees)
1 cup grated extra sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 cup grated parmesan
1 egg, beaten
1 cup milk, warmed (not above 110)
2/3 cup whole wheat flour
3 to 4 cups bread flour
2 tbs butter, melted and cooled to warm
1 1/2 tsp salt
Directions:
1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let proof until bubbly
2. Add milk, whole wheat flour, salt, butter, egg and incorporate into a slush.
3. Add 3 cups bread flour and cheeses and begin kneading.
4. If using a mixer, knead until dough pulls cleanly away from sides of bowl. Continue adding flour until this happens and dough forms a ball. Knead until a silver dollar size piece stretches without tearing.
5. Place in greased bowl and let rise until doubled.
6. Punch down and form into greased loaf pan
7. Let rise until doubled.
8. Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes, or until lightly browned and bottom taps hollow. If it browns too fast, cover with foil for final minutes of baking. Rotate in oven halfway through baking to achieve even browning.
9. Immediately remove from pan and let cool on wire rack
10. Cut with serrated knife.
11. ENJOY!
