It is about garden time! And the veggies will be coming in. This is a favorite of mine. And another that you can't say just how many servings there is.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs. turnips, peeled and sliced thin
2 tblsp. margarine
1 onion, sliced thin
2/3 cup celery and green pepper, chopped
2 tblsp. flour
1 cup milk
1/2 cup sharp cheese, grated
3 tblsp. bread crumbs
salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
1. Cook turnips in boiling, salted water until tender and drain, set aside.
2. In a skillet,Saute in butter the onion, green pepper and celery until tender.
3. Sprinkle with flour and cook 1 minute.
4. Add milk and stir until thickened.
5. Stir in cheese, salt and pepper.
6. Combine cheese sauce with turnips.
7. Place in baking dish and top with crumbs.
8. Brown under broiler.
