Cheddar cheese and honey mustard complement tart apple and smoked turkey for a tasty spin on the everyday turkey sandwich. Cut the leftover Granny Smith apple into slices to serve with the sandwiches.
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons honey mustard dressing
4 (1-ounce) 100% whole-wheat small-slice bread slices
3 ounces lean deli smoked turkey breast
6 thin slices granny smith apple
2 (1-ounce) slices reduced-fat mild cheddar cheese
butter-flavored cooking spray
Directions:
1. Spread dressing evenly over bread slices. Top 2 bread slices evenly with turkey, apple slices, cheese, and remaining 2 bread slices.
2. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Coat pan with cooking spray. Add sandwiches to pan; cook 3 minutes or until lightly browned. Coat tops of sandwiches with cooking spray. Turn sandwiches over; cook 3 minutes or until cheese melts.
3. Kitchen Classroom:
4. Cheddar Cheese Lingo: Perplexed as to what the words mild, medium, sharp, or extra sharp mean on cheddar cheese packages? These terms refer to the cheese's sharpness or amount of tang. Typically, the longer a cheese is aged, the tangier the flavor. For sensitive or picky palates, the best bet is to opt for mild or medium cheddar. For more adventuresome eaters, sharp or extrasharp adds a nice kick of flavor, especially to potatoes and pastas.
5. Young Chefs can:
