A jar of trufffles cost about $50.00 + and the oil expensive but much less costly. The recipe was excellent using the canned mushrooms as the truffle oil goes a long way to flavor. This was made for a birthday bbq we gave for a dear friend. Read more . It was a superb appetizer
Ingredients:
1 small wheel of brie cheese
4 oz cream cheese softened
truffle oil ( i used the black truffle oil which i was told was more intense in flavor than the white oil ) )
1 small can of mushroom pieces ( drained ) or if you can afford a jar of truffles use them
1 sheet of puff pastry
Directions:
1. Chill cheese well.
2. Remove top rind.
3. Cut cheese in half horizontally
4. Soften cream cheese and mix with truffle oil to taste
5. Spread the cream cheese over the bottom half of brie.
6. Place drained mushrooms accross the cheese evenly
7. Place top half over cheese,and place some mushrooms over that
8. Enclose the whole cheese in puff pastry and seal well
9. Bake in a 400F oven until puffed and golden about 30 minutes
10. Let cheese set about 10 minutes before cutting into wedges with a sharp knife.
11. May serve as is or with assorted crackers
