This recipe comes from my Japanese friend Toshi who got it from his grandmother. These are better than I have had in any restaurant! They're some work but always a huge hit at a party.
Ingredients:
2 lbs. ground beef (or pork or turkey)
2 large leeks, diced
2 bunches green onions, diced
5 or 6 tsp. garlic, minced
3 or 4 tsp. ginger, minced
pinch salt
1 tbsp. soy sauce
1-2 tbsp. sesame oil
olive to cook dumplings
60 (approx.) round wonton wrappers
dipping sauce
1 tbsp. garlic, minced
1/2 tbsp. ginger, minced
1 1/2 tbsp. sesame oil
1/4 cup rice vinegar
1/2 cup soy sauce
hot oil (ra-yu) to taste i like more! find this in the asian aisle of your grocery
Directions:
1. Mix together all ingredients well.
2. Form balls with 1-2 tsp. of mixture and wrap in round wonton wrappers, sealed with water.
3. Heat 1-2 Tbsp. olive oil in a skillet and cook dumplings until brown on the bottom.
4. Dissolve 2 tsp. corn starch in 1/2 cup hot water and pour it into the pan and cover immediately.
5. Cook over a medium heat until the water is evaporated.
6. Dipping Sauce
7. Heat sesame oil in a small pan. Mix garlic and ginger in a mixing bowl.
8. Pour hot sesame oil over the garlic/ginger mixture.
9. Add rice vinegar and soy sauce and mix well.
10. Use as a dipping sauce for the cooked gyoza.
