Topsy Turvy Cherry Pudding

Amish are great cooks. I have several of their reicipe books that I buy in Smicksburg an amish town. Wonderful recipes in them.
Ingredients:
11/4 cups sugar
2 t. butter
1 cup flour
salt
1t. baking powder
3/4 cup milk
1 can (1lb) red sour cherries, drained
1/2 cup cherry juice
whipped cream or ice cream
Directions:
1. Cream1 cup of the sugar with butter.
2. Sift flour then add salt and baking powder:; add alternately with milk to butter mixture.
3. Pour into buttered shallow baking dish. Combine cherries with remaining sugar and juice.
4. Heat to boiling point.
5. Pour over batter.
6. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes
7. Serve with cream or ice cream
