The original, Italian dessert, complete with ladyfingers and mascarpone cheese. Delicious!
Ingredients:
2 (12 oz) packages of ladyfingers
1 teaspoon cocoa powder, unsweetened
1/3 cup liqueur, coffee flavored
1 (1 oz) square of chocolate, semisweet
1 1/4 cups mascarpone cheese
6 egg yolks
1 1/4 cups sugar, white
1 3/4 cups heavy whipping cream
Directions:
1. Over boiling water mix together egg yolks and sugar in the top of a double boiler. Then, reduce heat to low setting and cook for around 10 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove mixture from heat and whip the yolks until they become thick and a lemon color. Now, add the mascarpone to the yolks and beat well until combined. Whip cream to stiff peaks in a separate bowl. Carefully fold the cream into the yolk mixture and place aside. Cut the lady fingers in half, and use them to line the bottom and sides of a large sized, glass bowl. Brush them with coffee liqueur and apply half of the cream filling over the lady fingers. Repeat the same procedure and sprinkle with cocoa powder, and garnish with chocolate curls (Using a vegetable peeler, run it down the edge of the chocolate bar). Place in the refrigerator for several hours (or overnight).
