This is the best recipe I have ever used for pie curst. It's flakey and delicious. This recipe came from my mother-in-law.
Ingredients:
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 3/4 cup vegetable shortening ( i use crisco)
1/2 cup ice cold water
1 tablespoons vinegar
1 large egg
Directions:
1. Chill the vegetable shortening.
2. In a large mixer bowl or food processor add flour, sugar, and salt and mix well.
3. Add the chilled shortening and mix ingredients until crumbly.
4. In small bowl beat together with fork, 1/2 cup water, vinegar and egg.
5. Combine all the ingredients into one and mix till moist. Do not over mix.
6. All ingredients can be mixed with a fork if you do not have a mixer or food processor.
7. Divide dough into 4 or 5 portions and make a flat round.
8. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 1 hour.
9. After one hour, pastry is ready for rolling.
10. Pastry can be frozen for use at a later time.
