  1. In a large pot, saute the onion and garlic in oil for 10 minutes. Add the two cans of tomatoes, salt, red wine vinegar, sugar and red pepper. Cook on med heat for 25 minutes and then add the fresh basil. I sometimes serve with meatballs, italian sausage, or use as a base for other pasta dishes. The amount of the marinara will seem to grow while it cooks. Do not over cook! 30 minutes is all a good marinara needs!
