I'm not a big fan of Apple Pie, but I really like this one, and it's simple, even with baking challenged people like me. :) My favorite part of this pie is the crunchy, caramel crust that forms on the top of the pie when it's done cooking. Yummy.
Ingredients:
8 granny smith apples, peeled cored and sliced
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3 tablespoons flour
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 double crust pie crust, for a 9 inch pie
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Melt Butter in a saucepan.
3. Stir in flour to form a paste.
4. Add water, white sugar and brown sugar.
5. Bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let simmer.
6. Place the bottom crust in the pie plate.
7. Fill with sliced apples, mounded slightly. (I like to toss the apples in a little cinnamon before I put them in the crust.)
8. Cover with a lattice work of crust.
9. Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust.
10. Pour slowly so it doesn't run off.
11. Bake 15 minutes at 425 degrees Fahrenheit; reduce the temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
12. Continue baking for another 35 to 45 minutes or until apples are soft.
13. Let cool.
