Tamale Pie With Cornmeal Cheese Crust

This is a simple yet delicious tamale pie dish that will satisfy even the hungriest people. My whole family loves it. You can use beef instead of ground turkey if you want too. Tastes great with ground turkey though. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 cup yellow cornmeal
1 teaspoon sugar
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1/3 cup milk
1 egg
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1/2 lb ground turkey breast
1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1 teaspoon garlic, minced
1 teaspoon jalapeno pepper, finely chopped
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup whole kernel corn, drained
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons cumin, ground
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350°F
2. Combine cornmeal and sugar; stir in 1 cup of cheese, milk, egg and oil. Stir just until moistened.
3. Press mixture on bottom and up sides of 9 pie plate sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
4. In 10 inch skillet, cook ground turkey, green pepper, onion, garlic and jalapeno pepper over medium heat until turkety is no longer pink. Drain. Stir in tomato sauce, corn, chili powder, cumin and cayenne pepper.
5. Spoon turkey mixture into cornmeal crust.
6. Bake at 350F, 30-35 minutes.
7. Remove from oven; sprinkle with 1 cup cheese. Return to oven and bake until cheese melts.
8. Let stand 5 minute before serving.
9. Serve with sour cream and salsa if desired.
