Sweet Potato Cake

Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup cooked, mashed sweet potatoes
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup chopped pecans
brown sugar caramel icing
Directions:
1. Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add sweet potatoes; beat well.
2. Combine flour, baking powder, soda, salt, and spices; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Beat well after each addition. Stir in chopped pecans.
3. Spoon batter into a greased 9- inch square pan. Bake at 350° for 40 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool. Spread Brown Sugar Caramel Icing over cake. Cut into squares to serve.
