This is a heavy and dense bread that is great for breakfast, lunch with cheese and fruit, or just for snacking. Very, very low in fat and sugar can be adjusted. I have been making it along time because the index card is very ragged and almost illegible!
Ingredients:
1/2 cup boiling water
1 cup raisins
1 egg, beaten lightly
1 cup brown sugar (i use 1/2 cup)
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup all-bran cereal
1/4 cup wheat germ
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Directions:
1. Pour boiling water over raisins and allow to cool.
2. Stir in eggs, sugar and buttermilk.
3. Sift dry ingrdients.
4. Add to above and mix well.
5. Oven 350 45-50 minutes.
