This is the chololate cake my Mom made when I was growing up.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup crisco
1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda
1 cup boiling water
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
icing
1/4 cup shortening
1/3 cup cocoa
1/4 tsp salt
2/12 to 3 cups powedered sugar
1/4 cup milk
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350
2. Cream shortening, sugar & cocoa, beat until smooth.
3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after.
4. Sift flour, salt, baking soda together.
5. Add milk & alternate with flour mixture.
6. Add boiling water and vanilla and beat well.
7. Pour into 2 8 inch round pans that have been greated and floured.
8. Bake 30 minutes at 350.
9. Icing:
10. Cream shortening & cocoa together.
11. Add salt and vanilla.
12. Next add sugar slowly.
13. Mix well and slowly add milk to desired thickness.
14. Spread on cooled cake.
15. If you want vanilla icing, just leave out the cocoa.
