I love French toast, and I love Grand Marnier liqueur, so this recipe was a natural to try. I often don’t care for “overnight” baked French toast recipes because the bread can so easily become too soggy in the egg batter. Read more . I tried this recipe that called for frying the bread after the overnight soak – I still got my crunchy browned toast with all the good flavors soaked in.
Ingredients:
8 - 10 slices french or italian bread, cut about 3/4” thick (enough slices to cover bottom of a 9x13pan)
4 eggs
1 cup whole milk or half-and-half
2 tablespoons grand marnier liqueur
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter
powdered sugar for garnish
Directions:
1. Arrange bread slices in a single layer in a 9x13 pan.
2. Beat eggs with milk, liqueur, sugar, extract and salt until well-blended.
3. Pour egg mixture over bread slices to coat evenly.
4. Turn slices over to make sure both sides have been coated with the egg mixture.
5. Cover pan tightly and refrigerate overnight.
6. When ready to serve, melt the butter in a large skillet and place bread slices over the melted butter.
7. Fry until golden, and then flip slices to fry the other side.
8. Remove fried slices to a serving platter and sprinkle powdered sugar generously over the top.
