How often do you go to a child's party where they offer up sugary juice box after juice box? This agua fresca is still yummy and sweet, but has a lot less sugar. Plus, you can control the amount of juice kids are having by pouring servings in 4-ounce cups. The strawberries are so delicious in this drink, but watermelon and pineapple are also good stand-ins. For a real happy hour, stir in some rum for an adult cocktail.
Ingredients:
5 cups hulled strawberries, divided
3 cups water, divided
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup fresh lime juice
lime wedges (optional)
mint sprigs (optional)
1 1/2 cups rum (optional)
Directions:
1. Place 2 1/2 cups strawberries and 1 1/2 cups water in a blender; process until smooth. Strain strawberry mixture through a sieve into a pitcher. Repeat procedure with remaining strawberries and water. Add sugar and lime juice to pitcher, stirring until sugar dissolves. Serve with lime wedges, mint, and 2 tablespoons rum per serving (for adults only), if desired.
