The last of the Cookie Exchange appetizers we made...this one was a lot of fun, too, and the candle in the middle was a nice idea. It's simple and tasty and couldn't be easier to make...a sure winner for a busy holiday party, and everyone loved it. Read more . You can make your own spinach dip, or buy some at the deli if you're in a hurry...that will really speed up the process! You can cut out star shapes or round little balls (from colored peppers) for decorations, if you want to go the extra mile...
Ingredients:
2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
spinach dip (or a store-bought spinach dip from the deli)
10 ounce pkg frozen, chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed as dry as possible (after squeezing out at much moister as possible, i place the spinach between several layers of paper towels and pat dry)
1 cup sour cream
1 cup mayonnaise
1 (1.5 ounce) pkg knorr brand vegetable soup mix
small can water chestnuts, diced
3 green onions, chopped fine
Directions:
1. Remove crescent roll dough from can, keeping it in the log shape.
2. Cut log into slices about 1/8 inch thick.
3. Place slices on very lightly greased baking sheet, in a star shape, overlapping the dough just a tiny bit as you form the star.
4. Bake at temperature recommended for rolls, but only until lightly browned (baking time will be considerably shorter since the rolls are thinner and not rolled into crescent shapes, so just watch them closely - I baked mine about 10 minutes).
5. Cool baked star completely.
6. Spread with Spinach Dip and serve immediately.
7. To make spinach dip, combine all ingredients until well blended.
