My husband and I took the boys for a walk and stopped at a local burger joint to look at their menu. They had a taco burger on the menu and it seemed really weak but I thought it had potential as a quick really good recipe. We grilled up some of them tonight and they really hit the spot. My mouth is still tingling as I type! You can adjust the heat by changing the cheese, tomatoes or how much seasoning you add.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs ground beef or 1 1/2 lbs ground turkey
1 (1 1/4 ounce) packet taco seasoning (i use store brand)
2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
jalapeno jack cheese
hot or mild rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies
red onion
sour cream or plain yogurt
greens
Directions:
1. Mix the ingredients in a bowl and make patties. We prefer really thin ones. Put on the grill and cook until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.
2. Put a few slivers of Cheese on each patty to melt.
3. Place on whole wheat bun and top with Rotel, red onion, and sour cream (or yogurt). You can add greens too if you'd like.
4. Too make it less spicy: add less of the seasoning packet to the meat; use cheddar cheese instead of Jalepeno; use plain diced tomatoes instead of Rotel Hot.
5. Makes about 8 thin patties.
