Spicy Dried Bean Patties - Falafel

I know that there are a few other Falafel recipes. This one is a wee bit different. I have made it and love it (but then I like Doritos and Cottage Cheese). A freind tells me that Falafel is a Lebonese dish. This is his family recipe. Read more . There is a lot of set time. But I found that is was worth it. Some on else please let me know what you think.
Ingredients:
375 g (1/2 lb) fava beans, soaked over night
375 g (1/2 lb) chick peas, soaked overnight
2 cloves of garlic, crushed
1 large brown onion, finely chopped
4 green onion, finely chopped
1/2 hot red pepper or green pepper, finely chopped
1 level tbls bicarbonate of soda
3 tbls plain flour
1 cup finely chopped parsley
1 tsp ground coriander
1 - 1 1/2 tsp cumin
1 1/2 tbls salt
1/2 tps black pepper
oil for frying
Directions:
1. Drain beans and chick peas well in cold water.
2. Pound or grind the beans and chick peas (if grinding, put them through the fine blade of the mincer twice).
3. Mix in crushed garlic, chopped onions, green onions, and hot pepper, then add the remaining ingredients.
4. Pound or blend the mixture to a smooth paste and let set for 1 hour.
5. Take walnut-sized lumps of the mixture and mould into round flat shapes 4 cm (1 1/2 in.) in doameter. Allow to rest for a further 15 minutes, then deep fry them in oil until golden brown.
6. Serve hot accompanied by a tomato and cucumber salad and tahini Sauce.
