Spicy Apple Bars

Delicious apple bars that are great night time treats.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup rolled oats
1 1/2 cups apples, peeled and diced
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)
confectioners' sugar
Directions:
1. Pre-heat oven to 375°F.
2. Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs.
3. Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Stir in rest of ingredients.
4. Spread into greased 11x16x1-inch or 9x13-inch pan. Bake for 25 minutes.
5. Cool and cut into squares. Sprinkle with confectioner’s sugar.
