Green bean casserole is one of my favorite foods and something I always look forward to as the holidays approach. Recently, I've discovered that I can cook it more than twice a year- just because it goes nicely with dinner! This Southern-style recipe is not your typical green bean casserole, but I promise it won't disappoint- mainly because of a lot of wiggle room to account for individual taste. (Note: this recipe makes 12 servings, so it's great for gatherings, but you can easily half all of the ingredients for your typical family dinner)
Ingredients:
4 (14 1/2 ounce) cans cut green beans
2 (10 1/2 ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
2 slices bacon
1/4-1/2 teaspoon granulated brown sugar, depending on taste
1/2-1 cup minced onion, depending on taste
1/2-3/4 cup milk, depending on taste
1 cup french's french fried onions
garlic, to taste
salt, to taste
black pepper, to taste
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Saute onion with garlic and bacon.
3. Cut bacon into 1/2 inch pieces.
4. Empty 4 cans cut Green Beans into 9 x 13 casserole dish.
5. Combine 2 cans condensed Cream of Mushroom soup with milk, salt, pepper, brown sugar, onion and bacon.
6. Pour soup mixture over Green Beans and mix well.
7. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until heated through.
8. Stir and top with 1 cup French's Fried Onions.
9. Return to oven and bake 5 more minutes or until onions are golden.
