Southern Fried Chicken

This Southern tradition is a must for the Sunday meal and a special treat for any other day of the week!
Ingredients:
9-11 pieces of cut up chicken
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon soda
1 cup allpurpose flour
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon parsley flakes
1/2 teaspoon savory or poultry seasoning
1/4 teaspoon ground white or black pepper
oil and large iron skillet for frying
Directions:
1. Place the cut up chicken pieces into a zip lock bag along with the buttermilk and soda. Put in fridge for about 30 minutes
2. Drain chicken
3. Place the flour, spices into another bag and shake
4. Add chicken and coat well
5. Heat oil on medium stovetop setting and fry turning often until golden brown and done when a toothpick inserted does not yield pink liquid (about 30 minutes)
6. Keep the oil at a temperature that does not simmer, but does not fry too fast
