This easy and delicious sourdough bread is a yeasted beer bread with only 4 ingredients! I haven't tried it yet, but I am confident maple sugar or honey could be easily substituted for the sugar in this recipe.
Ingredients:
12 oz bottle hard cider, room temperature
1 cup sourdough starter
1/4 cup sugar
5 cups bread flour, about
Directions:
1. In large bowl, mix the cider and sourdough starter.
2. Stir in sugar until dissolved.
3. Mix in enough flour to form a dough that can be kneaded with your hands.
4. Turn dough out onto floured board and knead dough for about 10 minutes.
5. Place dough in greased bowl and flip dough over so that the top is also greased.
6. Cover bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let sit in warm, draft-free place for about 1-1/2 hours.
7. Turn dough out onto floured board and knead for 5 minutes.
8. Divide dough in half.
9. Form each half into loaf.
10. Grease two bread pans and place loaves in pans.
11. Cover and let rise for about an hour or until double in size.
12. Bake bread at 350 degrees F for about 45 minutes or until bread sounds hollow when tapped on.
13. Remove bread from pans and let cool on rack.
14. Loaves may be bagged and frozen for later.
15. *beer may be substituted for the cider.
16. *sugar may be increased to 1/2 cup.
