SOUR MILK GRIDDLE CAKES DATED 1928 This recipe came my from my grandmother's collection that I inherited when I inherited the family collection in 1980.
Ingredients:
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups sour milk
1 beaten egg
2 tablespoons melted shortening
2 egg whites stiffly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
1. Mix and then sift all of the dry ingredients then add well beaten egg to the liquid.
2. Add liquid mixture to dry ingredients very gradually and stir quickly.
3. Add melted shortening, egg whites and vanilla extract.
4. Place on griddle and cook about 2 minutes on each side.
