My dog is picky, PERIOD! Who knew what I was getting myself into when we got the fluff ball! He is horribly picky and gets diarrhea from most canned dog foods. After trying TONS of different types, I finally researched homemade dog foods. This recipe was the first and the last we will ever use. He no longer gets diarrhea and can't wait for dinner time! We have been using it for about 2 years and our vet says he eats better than she does! It makes ALOT so I freeze week portions in freezer bags, it will feed him for 5 1/2 weeks!
Ingredients:
11 cups chicken, boiled and shredded, about 7-8 chicken breasts
3 cups yams or 3 cups sweet potatoes, mashed, about 2 large
2 cups old fashioned oats, about 3 cups cooked
5 cups cottage cheese, i use low fat
Directions:
1. Boil chicken in a large pot until no longer pink inside.
2. Set chicken aside to cool down a bit.
3. Cut yams into fourths and boil in same water until soft.
4. Peel off skin and mash with a fork.
5. Empty out chicken water but leave 3 1/2 c in pot and return to a boil.
6. Add 2 cups oats and boil on medium heat for about 6 min or until water is absorbed.
7. Let cool.
8. Shred chicken in small pieces or put in a food processor and pulse until you achieve desired size.
9. Add 11 c chicken in a LARGE bowl and 3 c mashed yams or sweet potatoes, stir until well combined.
10. Add 3 c cooked oatmeal, stir until well combined, add 5 c cottage cheese, stir until well combined.
11. My dog is a 12lb Shitzu and I give him 1/2 c dry food & 1/4 cup homemade food in the morning and the same around dinner time.
12. That's 3 1/2 c homemade food a week, so I divide the food into week portions in freezer bags, that will feed him for about 5-6 weeks.
13. You can decide how big your portions are depending on the size of your dog.
