I got this recipe off of a chicken wrapper, and have been fixing it for the past several years. It is a quick recipe and doesn't require a lot of prep time. It has a great flavor.
Ingredients:
1 whole fryer
1 tablespoon oil
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon catsup
1/4 cup apple juice
1 clove garlic, pressed
1 green onion, sliced
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon water
Directions:
1. Heat oil in dutch oven, brown chicken on all sides.
2. Mix soy sauce and next 6 ingredients, pour over chicken.
3. Cover, simmer 45 to 50 minutes.
4. Remove chicken to platter, draining juices back into pan.
5. Skim fat from sauce.
6. Mix cornstarch and water, stir into sauce.
7. Stir, constant, until thick.
8. Serve with chicken.
