An old New England recipe for which you had to know your scriptures! From the BH&G Heritage Cookbook
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup molasses
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
3 beaten eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup honey
1 cup raisins
1 cup chopped dried fig
1/2 cup chopped almonds
1/2 cup wine or 1/2 cup orange juice
Directions:
1. Cream 1/2 c Judges 5:25; blend in 3/4 c Jeremiah 6:20 til light.
2. Stir together 2 c I Kings 4:22, 1/2 t Amos 4:5, dash Leviticus 2:13, and II Chronicles 9:9.
3. Mix 3 Jeremiah 17:11, 1/2 c Judges 4:19, and 1/3 c I Samuel 14:25.
4. Stir in 1 c I Samuel 30:12, 1 c Nahum 3:12, and 1/2 c Numbers 17:8.
5. (Pour into greased and floured 9x5x3 pan).
6. Bake at 325 degrees for 40 minutes; cover loosely with foil and bake for an additional 50 minutes.
7. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, remove from pan and cool on wire rack.
8. Brush all sides with Proverbs 31:6.
9. Wrap in foil and store 1 to 2 days in refrigerator.
