I ate my first scrambled dog sometime near the end of WWII in Columbus, GA, where I grew up. It remains a popular item in Columbus, but I've never seen it on a menu anywhere else.
Ingredients:
hot dogs
hot dog buns
oyster crackers
chili (i like to use margie's chile, posted at this site, but any chili you'd use on a chili dog will work fine)
yellow mustard
chopped onions (optional)
dill pickle (spear or slices, optional)
Directions:
1. Steam hot dogs and heat buns or, if cooking only one of two, nuke them together in microwave.
2. Put hot dog in bun or, if you're really hungry use two dogs, one on each half of the bun.
3. Slice into bite-size pieces (cut completely through dog and bun)
4. Maintaining shape, use a large spatula to move to a dish shaped like bun but a bit larger. (If you don't have such a dish, a round dish that will just hold the bun works fine.)
5. Sprinkle oyster crackers over the dog and bun to just about cover.
6. Pour a couple of scoops of chile over everything, covering completely.
7. Top with mustard and, if you desire chopped onion and/or dill pickles.
