Traditional sheet cake from Glasgow. This cake is very easy to make from scratch. Be sure to top it off with a layer of Scottish icing for a delicious, cultural treat.
Ingredients:
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup oleo
1/4 cup crisco
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup hot water
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
1. Sift flour and sugar together, set aside.
2. Bring 1 cup water to a boil.
3. Mix oleo, Crisco, and cocoa together.
4. Stir in flour and sugar mixture.
5. Blend in boiling water.
6. Add buttermilk, soda, eggs, and vanilla.
7. Pour mix into baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.
8. Ice with Scottish icing.
