Scottish Applesauce Cake

Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1 1/4 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon clove
1 cup applesauce
2/3 cup butterscotch chips, melted
3/4 cup pecans, chopped
1/2 cup flaked coconut
1/3 cup butterscotch chips
1/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/4 cup cream
2 tablespoons butter
Directions:
1. Cake: Cream butter and sugar.
2. Add eggs, vanilla, salt, and cloves; beat well.
3. Stir in applesauce.
4. Gradually add flour, mixing well.
5. Stir in butterscotch.
6. Pour into greased and floured 8 x 12 x 2-inch pan.
7. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.
8. Add topping.
9. Topping: Boil all ingredients together until butter and morsels melt.
10. When cake is done, leave in pan; spread topping on cake.
11. Broil 1 minute or so until golden brown.
